Jacqueline du PreAbout this work
I painted this in response to a competition at St Marylebone Parish Church. They wanted portraits of famous people in the parish It was displayed on a hoarding to mask the renovations during 2021.
I chose this dynamic image as she appears lost in the moment, at one with her instrument.
Clare's sisterAbout this work
I painted this for my friend Clare. I have never met her sister, and I did a lot of revisions in response to Clare's comments. It was tricky!
Chuey and her daughters, cat and dog.About this work
This was a commission. It was painted before 2021, but I had a bit of a hiatus during lockdown and it did not get uploaded till then.
Chuey has been a great friend and mentor to me and through this I got to know more about her family and background. It was a delight to get to know them. Both her daughters are starting out in their creative careers. Chuey's home reflects her Malaysian background. They seem a close knit and cheerful family. The dog had died when I painted this but the girls wanted the dog to be included. It reminds me of similar portraits done in the past when babies who had died were comemmorated in this way. Respect for ancestors in a modern context.
